2016 George W. Burke, Jr. Award Winner
The New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) has awarded The Pinehills Waste Water Treatment Facility with the George W. Burke, Jr. Facility Safety Award for excellence and effectiveness in safety programming. The award was presented at The NEWEA annual conference held in Boston, Massachusetts. John Judge, President, Pinehills LLC was on hand to accept the award for The Pinehills.
The George W. Burke, Jr. Facility Safety Award recognizes excellence and effectiveness in safety programming for municipal and industrial wastewater facilities. The award, which is given annually to industrial or municipal wastewater facilities on a statewide basis, is presented to wastewater treatment facilities that have exhibited the best safety records in the past calendar year. NEWEA consists of New England’s water quality professionals who are responsible for the water people use daily.
“We are honored that The Pinehills Wastewater Treatment Plant was selected to receive the George W. Burke Award for excellence in safe plant operations,” said Judge. “Safe and effective facility operations are fundamental to both sustaining excellent water quality and providing a safe work environment for employees.” Says Judge, “Special thanks also go to our plant operator, Woodard Curran, for its professionalism and dedication to safety.
The Pinehills owns and operates the privately run, large-scale centralized wastewater treatment facility which currently has a 300,000 gallon capacity of wastewater per day. Presently, all homes and commercial properties are serviced through The Pinehills Waste Water Treatment Facility. Earlier this year the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection awarded The Pinehills a 2016 Public Water Systems Awards 2016 during 'National Drinking Water Week' (May 1 – 7) for Medium/Large Community System Award.
