PLYMOUTH – Last night, South Shore Community Action Council, Inc. (SSCAC) hosted its 19th Annual Local Heroes Awards Night, sponsored by Rockland Trust Co., Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation, Curtis Construction, and other area businesses. Each year, SSCAC recognizes those individuals, businesses, and organizations that demonstrate extraordinary commitment to fighting poverty and improving the lives of low-income South Shore residents. Over the years, The Market managers have demonstrated commitment and support for SSCAC’s Food Resources Program. Employees at The Market participate in every quarterly food drive, collecting food donations from their customers for the Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse, which is operated by SSCAC’s Food Resources Program. The Market also hosts a community food donation collection bin and makes contributions in the name of the Pinehills residents. In 2012, the managers and employees of The Market contributed 2,362 pounds of food to the Food Warehouse, which facilitates distribution of hundreds of thousands of pounds of emergency food relief to hungry South Shore residents each year. Manager, Sue Blackington Harris, and Assistant Manager, Leslie Romano, accepted the Local Heroes Award on behalf of The Market. Senate President Therese Murray, presented Sue and Leslie with a Certificate of Recognition from Congressman William Keating and Official Citations signed by herself and Representative Josh Cutler.
