Laurelwood might be the best kept secret in The Pinehills.

In our 5 square miles, there are as many ways to live as there are stages of life – young adults starting out, families, mixed-generation households, empty-nesters, and seniors. Laurelwood provides gracious apartment living that’s at once both independent and easy, with options for dining, housekeeping, personal care, and regular activities within a community of friends. They also offer memory care and assisted living. All with access to the amenities and activities in The Pinehills. It’s an integral part of life here.

You might arrive at The Pinehills looking for more space for your growing family, or to “right-size” now that the kids have moved out, but over 10, 20, or 30 years, life will continue to change. Home needs shift. Laurelwood is a home that allows you to remain in The Pinehills near friends, familiar faces, activities, and places. Or, if a parent or partner’s needs have outgrown their ability to be safe and healthy at home, Laurelwood is peace of mind and keeps loved ones close.

It shouldn’t be a secret that Laurelwood is a beautiful, vibrant, caring community, deeply rooted in The Pinehills. It’s awesome. Don’t take our word for it… meet some of our neighbors at Laurelwood, including our VERY FIRST homeowner. A true pioneer in The Pinehills who bought a home in Forest Edge with her husband back in 2001!

The Heart of Laurelwood - Meet neighbors who call it home.

Every place is shaped by the people who call it home, and Laurelwood is no exception. There is a bounty of incredible life experience, talents, and stories that make the community truly special.

We’re delighted to introduce you to a few of the remarkable individuals who embody the spirit of Laurelwood. Each has a unique story, and together, they add life, depth and character to their shared neighborhood.

Pat Martin - Firsties at The Pinehills.

In 2001, when Pat and her husband, Pepper, first scoped out The Pinehills, it was practically a blank canvas—a road, a golf course, and a whole lot of “just imagine.” But as they took it all in, with nothing but potential stretching as far as they could see, they knew they’d found their forever home. For Pepper, a 10th-generation descendant of Plymouth's original governor William Bradford, moving to The Pinehills wasn’t just retirement; it was a homecoming, with a few modern upgrades. And while friends and family might’ve raised a skeptical eyebrow or two, one visit was all it took to see for themselves that the Martins had found something very special.

Moving from that first home in Forest Edge to Laurelwood in 2022 gave Pat the opportunity to remain in The Pinehills, her “forever home”, allowing dear friendships and favorite places to remain close. These days, she continues to venture out on to the familiar walking trails and past the golf courses she loves. Pat has a sense of pride telling everyone that she and Pepper were the very first homeowners in The Pinehills and enjoys sharing her memories of the earliest days here. She has forged even more friendships, and is busy with all that Laurelwood provides, including a heavy dose of laughter and connection. For Pat, The Pinehills will always be the place she calls home—where she still finds adventure and joy every day.

My Mom - The Mayor of Laurelwood!

When my husband and I moved to Massachusetts in 2019 to be near our growing family, we knew we wanted to settle at The Pinehills. (It’s a great place, isn’t it?) But before we moved into our new home, the first priority was finding the perfect place for my mom – enter Laurelwood at The Pinehills.

Mom moved to The Pinehills a year before us, and she has thrived ever since. She’s known as the “Mayor of Laurelwood” because she’s always socializing and staying active. With three meals a day, a lovely apartment, and a full calendar of activities, Laurelwood gives her the independence she loves and the care she deserves.

We’re only six minutes apart, and while we meet up often for lunch or a shopping trip, most of the time I have to “make an appointment” because she’s so busy! I love popping by for the plays and events. She and the other residents really get into the fun, and the staff makes every day special.

For all of us, The Pinehills and Laurelwood are home. It’s a joy having mom close and knowing she is happy, well cared for, and part of such a vibrant place. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

The Right Place for Both of us.

When my husband, John, and I were looking for a place to move together, we explored several options for assisted living and memory care, but Laurelwood at The Pinehills really stood out. The apartments are so nice, the amenities are wonderful, and the location couldn’t be better—there are so many beautiful walking paths! Once we visited, we knew this was the right place for us.

John needed Avita memory care here at Laurelwood, and it gave me such peace of mind knowing he was receiving the care he needed. I was able to spend time with him, but also do things I enjoyed, like running errands and joining in the activities around the community. One of my favorites is Golf Pong. Jane, The Resident Engagement Director, here at Laurelwood, always has something fun up her sleeve!

The sense of community here at Laurelwood is something special. The leadership, nurses, and aides are all so warm and caring—it really feels like family. There's always someone around to help, and it’s comforting to know you’re surrounded by people who truly care. Laurelwood has made a big impact on my life, especially after I lost John. I’m so grateful for the support from the staff and the other residents—they helped me through that tough time.

Plus, being in The Pinehills means I can walk to The Market, the post office, the shops, (I especially love Book Love), and even the beer garden to enjoy music and crafts. I can find just about anything I need, and it’s such a nice outing! The whole neighborhood is so friendly, and it’s wonderful to be part of a larger, vibrant community.

One of my favorite memories so far is when Northbridge, (the locally owned parent company of Laurelwood,) celebrated its 20th anniversary. They transformed the whole place into a 1920s speakeasy! It was a day full of laughter, great food, and fun, and Jim and Wendy, the owners, spent the entire day with us, showing just how much they care. It was such a special celebration, and moments like that remind me of how lucky I am to be here.

If someone is thinking about moving to Laurelwood, I’d tell them it’s the best decision they can make! It’s beautiful, fun, and convenient, with everything you need within walking distance. It truly feels like home.
