Maybe this will finally be our year.
"I’ve been in The Pinehills Reindog Parade for many years and I’m not going to lie to you…there’s always a lot of stress in my house before the big event. My mother and father argue a lot. Something about the fact that it’s his fault that I have no skills and her fault that my costume is too tight. From what I hear, he’s too tough on me and she spoils me rotten. But they both agree on one thing….they want to win.
We’re all pretty sleepless the night before and we get to registration early so we get a good spot in the parade. I will admit I like to get there early so I can size up my competition. Don’t tell me that poodle is here again. She dances on her back legs. Infuriating. And that costume on the Great Dane puts mine to shame. As usual. My dad always glares at my mom over that one. But it’s her turn to glare when I step in front of the judges and get asked to show off my skills and the best I can muster is a sit, a wag, and some occasional gas.
But that’s okay. We’ll be back next year. And it just might be our year. If I can finally figure out a way to get that poodle to stub a paw...
